DISCLAIMER
Users of SLQWiK must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"SLQWiK is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of SLQWiK."
WHAT DOES SLQWiK DO?
SLQWiK allows you to download new messages and read/reply offline,
using almost any .QWK reader. There are MANY .QWK readers available,
including readers for operating systems other than MS-DOS.
SLQWiK creates .QWK packets from the SL message bases, and reads in
.REP packets. It follows the .QWK standards as designed by Mark
'Sparky' Herring. SLQWiK optionally will create a new files list,
and include welcome, news, and goodbye screens designed by the
SysOp. SLQWiK supports both old and new style command messages.
Alternatively, you may download a plain text file of new messages for
reading only. No offline replying is allowed with this option.
CONFIGURATION
The first requirement to use SLQWiK is to have a .QWK message reader.
The SysOp of the board running SLQWiK should have some available, and
will probably be glad to assist you. IMPORTANT: You must use PKZIP/
PKUNZIP as your archiver with SLQWiK!
HOW TO RUN SLQWiK
Once you have your .QWK message reader set up, the rest is easy!
Log on to the SLBBS running SLQWiK. Use the 1-MEMBER command to
Join the conferences you would like to receive mail in. Go to the
DOORS menu and run SLQWiK. Hit 'C' to configure SLQWiK. Select
your transfer protocol from the list provided. XModem is the default,
but is also the worst choice. ZModem is the best choice, followed by
YModem. If you are not familiar with file transfer protocols, ask the
SysOp for help. Select a Packet type, QWiK for .QWK, or Text for plain
Text. Choose whether or not you would like to receive a new files list.
Decide if you want messages FROM you to be downloaded (usually no, you
do know what you wrote, don't you :). Finally, indicate whether or not
you want to mark the messages as read (update your last read pointers).

Now the tough part :). Hit 'D' to download a packet. SLQWiK will
scan for new mail, and optionally new files, and will report the
number found. SLQWiK has a limit set by the SysOp to the number of
messages in on packet. When SLQWiK is finished, you will be asked
if you want to logoff after download or quit. If you choose 'No',
then the .QWK will be Zipped up and the transfer will start. If the
transfer is successful, then your Last Read Pointers are updated.
SLQWiK numbers the .QWK packets you download. The first would be
[BBSID]1.QWK, the second would be [BBSID]2.QWK, etc. After 99,
SLQWiK restarts at 1. [BBSID] will depend on the BBS you are using.
For instance, the [BBSID] for my BBS is BBANG, so your QWK packet
would be BBANG#.QWK. If you choose 'Yes', the sequence will be
the same, except the door will hang up on you after the transfer.
If you choose 'Quit', of course, you are returned to the main SLQWiK
menu.
To upload a packet, hit 'U'. SLQWiK will ask you if you want to
logoff after upload or quit. If you choose 'No', SLQWiK will
immediately start trying to receive. From your comm program,
upload the [BBSID].REP that was created by your Mail Reader.
SLQWiK will read it in and put the messages in the proper
conferences. Messages flagged as private will be put in a users
mail box, if the user can be found. If not (in other words, you
sent private mail to someone not a user of this BBS), then the
message is simply deleted. Again, choosing 'Yes' disconnects
you when the transfer is completed, and choosing 'Quit' returns you
to the main SLQWiK menu.
Adding and Deleting Conferences can also be done direct from your
.QWK Mail Reader if it supports the optional command message.
Just tell it which conferences you want to add or delete, and
SLQWiK will take care of the rest when you upload your .REP.
For a list of supported command messages, see COMMAND.DOC.
You may abort your SLQWiK session at any menu prompt by hitting
'ESC'. This will return you immediately to the BBS.

REGISTRATION
SLQWiK is distributed as ShareWare. There is a trial period
of thirty days in which the SysOp may evaluate SLQWiK. At the end
of thirty days, if the SysOp does not register SLQWiK, then he/she may
NOT continue using it.
Please help your SysOp Register SLQWiK!
